Dr. Barghouti is a medical doctor, a graduate of Stanford University and a Sloan Fellow, who was a candidate for the presidency of the Palestinian National Authority in the 2005 election, running second to Mahmoud Abbas.

In 1979, he founded the Union of Palestinian Medical Relief Committees, an NGO providing health care in the West Bank and Gaza, and he still serves as its president. In 1989, he co-founded the Health, Development, Information, and Policy Institute, a think tank representing 90 Palestinian community organizations.

He has courageously criticized both the PLO and the PA for corruption and charted a course to a "third way," through the Palestinian National Initiative, toward a democratic, non-violent, and inclusive two-state solution. He has been repeatedly detained by the IDF, suffering injuries while detained.

In 2010, he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Nobel laureate Mairead Maguire.

This is a very special opportunity to hear first-hand from an outstanding Palestinian leader while making a donation to a worthy cause and enjoying the company of friends.
